The Mpumalanga (Zulu name for “the place where the sun rises”) province in eastern South Africa borders the nations of Swaziland and Mozambique. The southern half of the Kruger National Park – a huge nature reserve with abundant wildlife including big game – is in the Lowveld/Bushveld region, while the Highveld region is to the west – consisting of mainly high-altitude grassland. The central region of Mpumalanga is very mountainous with the Drakensberg exceeding heights of 2000 m in most places.
Mpumalanga is a popular tourist destination. Attractions include the Kruger National Park, the Sudwala Caves and the iconic Blyde River Canyon. Many activities also including the big jump, mountain and quad biking, horse trails, river rafting and big game viewing are endemic to the region – Mpumalanga is known to be “big five” territory!
With such an array of outdoor activities and variety of flora and fauna, Mpumalanga is a favourite destination to buy a home.
