Asbestos Inspection is a division of Home Inspection Services in South Africa.
We have earned a reputation for honesty, integrity, ethics and premium customer service. We do not engage in asbestos remediation, this would be classed as conflict of interest. All our asbestos scrapings are analysed by an independent laboratory accredited with a polarising microscope to identify if asbestos fibres are present in the sample.
Asbestos inspection reports are easy to understand and photographs inserted in the text, and report on all visual defects found.
SOME FACTS ABOUT ASBESTOS
Asbestos is a collective term for six naturally occurring fibrous minerals. The most well know and dangerous are: Blue Asbestos (Crocidolite), Brown Asbestos (Amosite) and White Asbestos (Chryostile).
Asbestos products normally contain 10 – 15% asbestos fibres, but can reach up to 40% asbestos fibres.
There is conclusive evidence that asbestos roof tiles, corrugated roof sheeting, gutters, down pipes, barge boards, partitioning ceilings and soffits can deteriorate especially if they have not been regularly maintained e.g. painted or sealed, they can release microscopic fibres into the atmosphere which can cause lung damage e.g. cancers.
Asbestos was banned from use in certain products in 2002, mainly produced by Everite, but a total ban only can into law from 2008.
We would therefore suggest that any property built before 2002 undergo an asbestos inspection to determine the condition of asbestos sheeting on the property.
